Extremism

Extremism refers to the holding of extreme political, social, or religious views that are often considered far outside the societal norms. It typically involves advocating for radical measures or actions to achieve ideological goals, potentially leading to increased polarization or conflict in a society. Extremism can manifest in various forms, including violence, intolerance, and the rejection of democratic principles. It may be observed in different contexts, including political ideologies (such as far-left or far-right), religious beliefs (often linked to fundamentalism), and other movements that seek to impose strict adherence to particular ideologies. Extremists may pursue their objectives through various means, including propaganda, recruitment, or in some cases, terrorism. The term often carries a negative connotation, as extremism is usually associated with disruption, societal division, and undermining of social cohesion. It is important to distinguish between extreme views and legitimate dissent, as the former often rejects compromise and toleration.
