Manga

Manga refers to a style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels, characterized by distinctive art, storytelling techniques, and cultural themes. Typically published in black-and-white, manga covers a wide range of genres and is aimed at various age groups, from children to adults. The term itself translates to “whimsical pictures” in Japanese, reflecting both the playful nature and artistic style of the medium.

Manga is often serialized in magazines before being collected into volumes called “tankōbon.” The reading direction is unique to Japanese manga, traditionally read from right to left.

Beyond their entertainment value, manga often provides insights into Japanese culture, social issues, and the complexities of human relationships, influencing and reflecting societal trends in Japan and beyond. The popularity of manga has expanded internationally, leading to a growing global fanbase and the influence of manga artistic styles on comic production worldwide.
