Football

Football refers to a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, typically involving kicking a ball to score goals. The term “football” can refer to different sports depending on the region; however, it most commonly denotes association football (known as soccer in some countries), which is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The objective of the game is to score by getting the ball into the opposing team’s goal. The sport is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

Football is played professionally around the world and is one of the most popular sports globally, with millions of fans and numerous leagues. Variants of football include American football, rugby football, and Australian rules football, each with its own set of rules and playing styles. However, in a broad sense, “football” often implies the global sport of soccer, characterized by its use of a round ball and primarily foot-based play.
